DO NOT EAT UNAGI
To all JAPANESE food lovers.
Please do no eat any unagi (japanese eel) for the time being.
If you have some in the fridge, throw it away. The Singapore
Agricultural Authority issued a warning today that it was recalling all eels
from China. The unagi we get at the supermarket are from China.
These eels had tested positive for carcinogen Malachite Green.
Malachite Green had been used as a food preservative to keep germs,
fungus and parasites in check until the early 1990s when it
proved! m to cause cancer and was banned across the world.
However, the material is still in use in some countries such as
China because of its low price and good preservative effect.
To play it safe, better not to eat any unagi sushi or dishes
for the time being.
